Presenting

The deadline for submitting proposals has now passed. Thank you to everyone who entered a submission. We are reviewing the proposals now, and we will be posting the schedule shortly.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal for Faculty Academy, you will need to complete our online proposal form. In addition to basic contact information, you will need to supply a brief (250 words or less) abstract about your presentation. You will also need to select a session format and indicate any special technology requirements you have (see below for format details and information about standard technology available in sessions).

You will also have an opportunity to let us know what times will work for you to present.

Once your proposal has been received, we will review your submission. Acceptance will depend on the relevancy of your presentation. We will contact you as soon as a decision has been made. The deadline for submitting a proposal is Friday, May 1, 2009 @ 5:00 PM.

Session Types

  • Panel Discussion
A panel discussion brings together colleagues who present brief remarks on a common topic, then open the floor to an informal discussion they help to moderate. Examples include blogging in the classroom, discussion forums vs. chat vs. IM, grading multimedia/non-print assignments, etc. Panel discussions typically run 45-60 minutes (plus 10-15 minutes for Q&A), depending on the topic and the number of panelists.

NOTE: If you propose a panel discussion, please make sure you have arranged a slate of co-presenters. If you are interested in a panel about a specific topic, but need help identifying co-presenters, please contact us.

  • Formal Presentation
15 minute lecture and/or demonstration with an additional 5 minutes of Q & A time. You may present a work-in-progress, an overview of ongoing research, an account of a particular resource or innovation you have incorporated into your teaching, or other work suitable for a conference-style paper.

If you are interested in proposing something for Faculty Academy that does not fit into one of these two formats, please contact us. We’ll do whatever we can to accommodate interesting ideas and presentations.
